NAIROBI, KENYA, 24TH JUNE 2023: THE FOREST GUARDIAN wins the Blue Water Ocean Award at the 2023 Blue Water Film Festival held on June 11th at the Scripps Oceanographic Institute in San Diego, California..

The Forest Guardian, directed by TonyWild and Ngoteya Wild, and supported by the Nature Environment and Wildlife Filmmakers (NEWF), exposes viewers to the incredible forests of Budongo and Bungoma in Western Uganda. In the film Ssezi Mugisa, the Forest Guardian, describes the names, origins, benefits of forests to our mental, physical and psychological health, and importance of forest conservation. This award recognizes the hard work and passion of everyone involved in filming the documentary, particularly Ssezi and The Chimpanzee Trus

The Blue Water Film Festival (BWFF) commemorates the UN - World Oceans Day on 8th June every year in San Diego, California, with year-round screening, panels, and events to help cultivate a burgeoning family-based, environmental and military community in San Diego and around the world. It also encourages attendees to think broadly about how climate change affects planet Earth and think deeply about the universal concerns and actions needed to restore equilibrium. Fifty percent of all film selections are non-US productions, helping fulfill the festival's mission of promoting cross-cultural understanding through film.

“Winning the Blue Water Ocean Award at the Blue Water Film Festival is a crucial recognition as it acknowledges the considerable effort put into local conservation efforts and engagement with the local communities,” said Anthony Ochieng, founder TonyWild Foundation.
